The Mad God

—by Mishka Zakharin

From the very heights of his aloof and lonely mountain, from beneath the depths of cold, uncaring seas, or from the stark cruelty of barren deserts, Mishka wears his godhood on his sleeve… in his fourth poetry anthology, Mishka delves into the mythological and the astrological, the psychological and the spiritual; whether monkey, daemon, or god, Mishka provides all that his readers desire of him:  creativity and lyricism, philosophy and inaneness, morose subjectivity and shenanigans of mythic proportion—and, lest we forget, naughty things all about!…

Definition of a Mad God

Alright, okay, okay, alright…

so maybe I’m mad—

such is not so difficult to explain—

but why a God?…

Oh, sure, fine,

so I haven’t dipped My divine fingers

into the well-spring of miasmic treacle

to pull forth an Adam or an Eve,

and a Garden in which to place them….

But I am a Writer and a Poet,

a Philosopher and a Creator—

I draw forth new worlds

from the Nothingness of the Cosmic Chaos,

and I bring about Life itself,

wrought from the innate power

that burns within Me

and cannot be denied;

from the Immaterial comes Matter,

from the Insubstantial arises Substance—

in the influence of My Being,

Oblivion becomes Eternity and Infinity…

nothing lies beyond My grasp,

for I am the Beginning and the End

and all things Between!…

The Fall

Radiant Lucifer shines in Heaven,

God’s brightest beacon;

within, the darkness grows…

At once selfish with the Lord’s praises,

and angry to be subservient;

proud to hold such high rank,

yet jealous of those who are free

of the responsibilities his position demands;

the maddening frustration of realizing

the qualities he resents so much in others

are those he himself most covets.

Eternity hangs in the balance,

awaiting his decision:

to serve in Heaven

and secretly despise all others,

or to rule in Hell—

and openly despise himself.

Chunks of Sky – #70

At the start of the deluge

everyone just thought:

“Hell—we could use some rain…”

But as their homes and families

and dreams and lives

were washed away,

and the world became enclosed

in its cocoon of wetly ironic salvation,

their screams for help

were muted by the thunder,

and the horror in their eyes flashed

with the wicked indignation of the lightning…

Even then, they could not understand,

they could not feel regret,

and everyone just thought:

“Hey—this really blows!”

God’s Plan

Who can say what is intended?…

To look upon the glories of the world,

to see the natural wonders of our planet,

and everywhere witness how easily

it can all be corrupted by the casual disregard—

if not outright, malicious contempt—

of Earth’s dominant life form…

perhaps made in the image of God,

yet ever, inherently inferior within….

Wallowing in the clinging morass

of the human condition:

reveling in the degradation

of uncompromising self-fulfillment;

forever seeking solutions through violence,

the last refuge of a limited intelligence;

surrendering always to the machinations of hate—

yet never admitting it stems from internal inadequacies…

Caught up in the whirlwind that is life,

it seems impossible to do more than speculate

as to the reason for us being here at all…

yet one aspect seems abundantly clear—

whatever His motives,

God has always had much more faith in us

than we have had in Him….

Of Gods and Monkeys

Big, hairy, clinging bastards—

There’s no telling them anything…

What the hell?

What the hell?!?
